I've Grown Up With Pugs - These Are The 10 Things I've Learned

Growing up with pugs has been one of the best childhood experiences. If you’re thinking about bringing a pug into your home or are already a proud pug parent, here are ten things I’ve learned from my years of living with Ollie and Frankie.

1. Pugs Shed...Like A LOT!
If you own black jeans, prepare to regret it. Pug fur sticks to everything - your clothes, couches, probably even your soul. Frankie basically sheds enough to knit another pug every season. Invest in Ikea lint rollers (plural).
2. Rain? Nah - not for Pugs
Frankie will happily sprint until she collapses at the beach, but if there’s a puddle or the grass outside is wet? Forget it. Pug Paws must stay dry. Ollie won’t even try. Rainy days= Weeing inside (Mum goes nuts)
3. Pugs Have Allergies
Like me during hay fever season, pugs get itchy, sneezy, watery eyed goobies. Pollen, food, dust, you name it. Basically, Neeta (our vet friend) is on speed dial. Daily face washing with a warm washcloth is a must.
4. Pugs Follow You Around Like a Shadow
If I’m cooking, studying, or even in the bathroom (yep), the pugs are right there. Frankie’s shadowing me like she’s my bodyguard. Ollie sits and stares. Privacy? Yup, forget it.
5. Pugs Help Me Make Friends
Walking with pugs means random people stopping you for pats and chats. Honestly, Frankie’s zoomies get me more attention at the park than I ever got on my own.
6. Pugs Need Daily Grooming
Brushing? Yup. Cleaning pug wrinkles? Absolutely. It’s kinda gross, but it has to be done otherwise they get all funky (and very smelly). Ollie pretends it’s a spa treatment. Frankie acts like I’ve betrayed her.
7. Pugs Are ALWAYS Hungry
Pugs have zero “I’m full” level. They’ll act like they haven’t eaten in weeks right after eating dinner. The begging eyes are full on. You have to stay strong (I’m still working on it).
8. Pugs Love Walkies
Even Ollie at 17 still loves a slow stroll around the park across the road. Frankie drags me at full speed if she sees Cyril with Neeta. Pugs may be small, but they know what they like - and it's a walk.
9. Pugs Are Funny
Ollie and Frankie have this funny quirky way about them that makes everyone smile around here. Each has their own different ways that make us smile - Frankie, how she sits like a bulldog, and Ollie snorting and purring like a cat.
10. Pugs Are 100% Family
Pugs aren’t “just dogs.” They worm their way into your life and suddenly you can’t imagine home without them.
